Lafayette Architect for Custom Homes,
Renovations & Additions

Architecture rooted in Old Town Lafayette — for homeowners, property owners, and businesses throughout the city.

Intentional Architecture is based in Old Town Lafayette and has designed nearly two dozen residential and commercial projects throughout the city — from custom homes, additions and ADUs to offices, restaurants, and larger community-focused projects.

Our work here is grounded in more than familiarity with the streets and neighborhoods. We understand Lafayette's zoning, planning, building-review, historic-preservation, and permitting processes — and how those requirements can shape a project before design is very far along.

Whether you are planning a new home, rethinking an older house, adding an ADU, or navigating a complex infill site, our role is to help turn those constraints into a clear, thoughtful path forward.

01 Local Context

Architecture rooted
in Lafayette.

Lafayette is not one kind of place.

Old Town includes small historic homes, newer infill, alley-loaded garages and ADUs, longtime commercial buildings, and increasingly ambitious residential projects. Elsewhere in the city, larger lots, newer neighborhoods, and different zoning conditions create a completely different set of opportunities.

Our work here spans that range.

We have designed custom homes, whole-house renovations, additions, ADUs, office buildings, restaurant improvements, and larger commercial projects throughout Lafayette. That breadth gives us a practical understanding of both the architecture and the process required to make projects happen here.

02 Local Knowledge

Local experience
matters.

Good design is only part of getting a project built.

In Lafayette, the questions can begin long before floor plans: What can actually be built on the property? Which zoning and dimensional standards apply? Is the site within the Old Town overlay? Does an existing building trigger historic review? Can an ADU fit?

Lafayette now requires new permit applications to comply with the 2024 I-codes and 2026 National Electrical Code. Old Town additions, garages, ADUs, and accessory structures may also be subject to additional neighborhood requirements, while structures 50 years or older can require historic demolition review. The city is also in the middle of a significant zoning transition, with a comprehensively rewritten Land Use Code scheduled to take effect February 1, 2027.

Our familiarity with Lafayette's planning and building staff, review processes, and local requirements helps us identify these issues early and guide clients through them with fewer surprises.

05 Why Intentional Architecture

Why work with a local
Lafayette architect?

Principal Involvement

Your project is led directly by the architect responsible for the design — not handed off after the initial conversation.

Construction Experience

Our design work is informed by firsthand construction experience, helping us think through detailing, sequencing, durability, cost, and how buildings actually come together.

A Clear Process

We use a structured design process to clarify priorities, constraints, budget, and decisions before they become expensive problems.

High-Performance Thinking

Energy use, indoor comfort, durability, resilience, and healthy building strategies are considered as part of the architecture from the beginning.

Lafayette Knowledge

Years of work throughout the city have given us direct experience with Lafayette's planning, zoning, building, historic, and review processes — and working familiarity with the people responsible for administering them.

We know the process because we work here regularly. That makes a meaningful difference in how smoothly projects move through review.

06 Our Home

A Lafayette architecture practice, not just a firm
that works here.

Intentional Architecture's studio is in Old Town Lafayette, only blocks from several of our completed and current projects.

We live here, work here, walk past our projects, and continue to see how they become part of the neighborhoods around them.

That proximity creates a different kind of accountability. For us, Lafayette is not simply another service area. It is home.
